Skilled Worker Visa

The main sponsored route, needing a licensed employer who issues a Certificate of Sponsorship. The salary must meet the general threshold (around £41,700 since July 2025) or the role going rate, whichever is higher, and English at the required level (B2 from January 2026). Five years leads to ILR.

For occupations on the Immigration Salary List, which replaced the old Shortage Occupation List and sets a lower salary threshold for in-demand roles. The discount is real but the role must be on the list, which is updated through the year.

  • The higher of the general threshold or your role going rate. The general threshold rose to around £41,700 in July 2025; Immigration Salary List roles and new entrants have a lower threshold; Health and Care visas have a separate lower rate. Rather than quote a single number, we check the current threshold and going rate for your job code before filing.

  • The list of occupations eligible for a lower salary threshold, which replaced the old Shortage Occupation List. If your role is on it, the threshold drops to a lower level. The list is updated through the year, so we confirm whether your role qualifies before advising.

  • For the Skilled Worker visa, yes: a licensed employer who issues a Certificate of Sponsorship. The Global Talent visa needs an endorsement from an approved body rather than an employer sponsor, and the Graduate Route needs no sponsor at all. We map which route your profile allows.

  • On the Skilled Worker route, five years of continuous residence leads to Indefinite Leave to Remain. The May 2025 White Paper proposes lengthening the settlement route toward eight to ten years for some, but that is a proposal under consultation, not enacted law. We file under the rules in force and flag any change that affects you.

  • A post-study open work visa for international graduates of UK degrees, currently for two years, with no sponsor needed. The White Paper proposes shortening it to 18 months. It bridges graduates into the Skilled Worker route, so we time the switch before the route ends.

  • It has been heavily restricted. Dependants were removed and the route was closed to new sector entrants in 2024, and the White Paper proposes ending new care worker applications. We assess whether it is a live option for your role before filing, and never plan a case around a closing door.

  • Yes. The general salary threshold rose to around £41,700 in July 2025, the English requirement for Skilled Workers rose to B2 from January 2026, the Immigration Skills Charge increased, and the White Paper proposes a longer settlement period and a shorter sponsorable list. We file under the rules in force and flag what is coming.
